Where are you going?
Imagine your life as a long drive. We’re all in the “cars” of our lives driving down the road and across the years. We’re all going somewhere. Our cars, while sometimes parked and sometimes going in reverse, are mostly moving forward. But moving forward doesn’t necessarily mean they are moving with purpose. Maybe they’re simply going around the block hundreds of times until they run out of gas.
The first step in getting to where you want to be is to figure out what that place is. Then you can plug that destination in the Waze of life and map yourself a route. Just like Waze (no criticism to Waze) it’s not a perfect system. Sometimes you find yourself on a one-lane dirt road with lots of potholes along the journey. You are, however, much more likely to end up at your desired destination, if you have actually selected a destination.
I’ve created a bunch of different exercises and worksheets over the years, to help facilitate this process. Here’s my newest iteration. As you’re thinking about “what’s next?” at the end of this tumultuous year, give these worksheets a try. They’re set up so that you can complete them on the the PDF and the Ten-Year goals will automatically populate on the Milestone pages. This makes for easy digital saving to reference and change as desired (they’re your goals you can change them). The squares are also set up to perfectly accommodate standard 3” x 3” post-it notes if you prefer a more analog/tactile experience.
Let me know how these work for you. I’m constantly changing and updating, so I’d love the feedback.
